the first place i slept in honduras, a little hotel in valle de angeles. i recommend it to anyone. but i can´t remember the name right now.

my first birthday cake on my birthday. they sang happy birthday in english. if you´ll notice my beer. this is one of the few times a woman can acceptably drink beer. but only one or two. (i got to have two)
this is catarranas where municipal development is right now. it´s only about 30 minutes from here.

if you look very closely at this picture you can see a horse that looks like he is thinking about jumping. fortunately the horse chose life, as we promised to buy him some new shoes.

ahorita yo estoy en el cafe internet cerca de la estacion de policia y el mercado grande, abajo de la calle principal.
i´m near the police station in a cool internet cafe that just happens to be full of a bunch of other gringos in the peace corps. the municipal development group is in a place called catarranas and the protected area management people are in a really tiny town that i can´t remember the name of, but they´ve all come into talanga on this quite pretty saturday because youth development here are the only ones with internet access. it is fairy expensive and out of the way, and that´s why this is the first time i´ve gotten down here.
the internet here also isn´t extremely fast, but i´m trying to upload some pictures. i´m going to write for as long as it works until it´s not working anymore which could actually be soon. oh good news, it´s working. it´s just going to take about an hour.

hey, we´re on number 4 of 50 on the pictures. but that´s only uploading them to another website before i upload them here. hmm.

talanga is interesting. it´s a big open wide dusty bowl. mucho polvo. entonces when we go to exercise we go feel a bit overwhelmed by the breathing in of dust. also, i´ve been exercising without a sportsbra, which is always fun! i´ve had to exercise though--the food here is... interesting. plato tipico is lo mismo aqui, mucho huevos, frijoles, queso y tortillas with the occasional fried sausage and platanos. i also get a lot of beets at my new house. yesterday was my host father´s birthday and everyone got caked, which was really funny. i still can´t get over the soda with cake thing, though.
i´ve been keeping peanut butter or peanuts in my room along with extra fiber wheat bread and raisins, all of which are very expensive here because for the most part they are made in the US. this is annoying so if anyone ever feels like sending a package (which i would LOVE) please include peanut butter, raisins and calcium pills because i don´t think wheat bread will make it. a lot of volunteers have received packages from home along the lines of candy and treats which are still fairly expensive here but not difficult to find. entonces, i would much rather receive healthy food that´s harder to find and expensive.
all of the milk here is either uber pasteurized and doesn´t need to be refridgerated (which grosses me out) or it´s made of powder, which i don´t mind putting in my coffee but for drinking also very much grosses me out. so calcium would be good.
my mom here things i like to eat a lot. she gives me all kinds of food all of the time. for breakfast alone yesterday i got two huge sandwiches with eggs beans and cheese on them, and also oatmeal, which was so much that i actually had to get one of the sandwiches to go. and so i got to eat that for lunch and i didn´t go home for lunch.
we´ve been doing a lot of workshops, on conducting workshops for the most part. we´re not really doing everything that we will be soon yet. that didn´t make sense. essentially, we´re not at the good stuff yet but i believe next week after our second interviews we will be starting to visit schools. also, hilary if you´re reading this, i´m attempting to mail you a letter so that you´ll get it on time however i may have to send it to tegus with my padre anfitriona and so you may or may not receive it depending on how reliable he is because i´m just not sure yet.
the roads here, if these pictures don´t load (it´s already crashed and i´ve already had to restart and i´m supposed to be going to a party for lunch very soon) are very much polvo, but the calle principal is a bit nicer and paved. there are cows (vacas) and chickens/roosters (gallinas) everywhere and everywhere you go you´ll probably step in cow shit and also smell some very gross things on the streets. also the dogs bark all throught the night and the roosters start chi-chi-di-chi ing at about 3:45 am, which sucks the most on saturdays. i´ve made fabulous use of my ipod when they start crowing, but i´m actually lucky because some of our volunteers are essentially sleeping outside with them, which i can imagine would make it even more difficult. alright, i´m going to try uploading some of these pics. we´ll see what happens.
